I have new boots! Hurray! Just in time too – those snow drifts are already getting deep!
Bob tried to fix my boots last year after the bottom detached from the rest of the boot. The glue lasted about a month. The second application though didn’t stick at all! Oh well. They had managed to survive several years and I had a backup pair of chore boots to finish out the season. But, the chore boots have started leaking and are not rated for the cold, so I decided to invest in my own well-being.
These new ones are certainly a brighter color than my typical choice of black! Bob should have no trouble finding me the next time I’m upside down in the snow bank because I tripped over myself! Of course, having three horses trying to help me get back up is a fairly good indication of my where-abouts any way.

This morning started with that heavy, discouraged feeling—the kind that makes you wonder if the day is already stacked against you. So I stepped outside for a little reset while feeding the animals. That’s when I had an altercation with the cat water. Now, the garage has a head start on becoming a mini ice rink.
I headed out to the barn. Two trips with hay, one with a salt block, and on that last trip the barn door decided it was done cooperating. The bottom corner will not clear no matter what I do. So I did what farm folks do best—grabbed baling twine and bungee cords and created a temporary fix to keep the horses in. Not pretty, but it works. I’m sure Bob will work his magic when he gets a chance.

But, even with frustrating moments like this—moments that have compounded with a whole year of challenges—I can see how much I’ve grown. I’m more creative. More grateful. And my family tells me I’m more relaxed, which surprises me.
Most days, I feel deeply connected to my purpose. Today isn’t one of those days. But the day’s still young… and hope has a funny way of sneaking back in when I least expect it.
