I got a new phone over Labor Day weekend.
Hopefully, this will end the missed calls and messages phenomenon for awhile. However, I quickly developed a problem…
The problem being that I didn’t recognize the ring tone as MY phone. I tried several from the list… most didn’t sound like ringing at all, some caused confusion on whose phone was ringing, and the rest had a delayed reaction… oh, is that my phone?!
So, I went on the hunt for a ringtone that would be perfect for me (and a crash course on how to get music files on my phone)… I found several ringtones that I like… oh, the choices!!!
Bob and my oldest helped thin the selection down.
This is the one that won out. It is not a favorite of either Bob or my oldest, but they both agree that it is sooo me (and sure to get my attention)!

Last night, I went to the kitchen and heard my phone ring (remember how I have a new ringtone of the bugle call that starts a horse race?)… I said “Noooo!” (because Bob and I were enjoying a meal and watching the TV – nothing that couldn’t be interrupted, but I wasn’t interested in talking at that moment). I heard Bob laugh as he said “Don’t worry, it was the TV and not the phone!” lol

This was yesterday morning in our town (not next to us though). Last night, the water was almost gone. Then, another storm hit. Today, there are power outages and people from these areas are being evacuated. Again, not in our area. There is construction going on in these areas that have shut down the main sewer system, causing the majority of the flooding. Thankfully, there is a route around Madison that Bob can use to get to work and out to the horses.

There are so many times when we don’t get to see the hidden blessings when things go wrong that we forget the encouragement to praise God in ALL things. Last night, though, we got a glimpse of God’s care in our lives – including a hidden blessing!
A few days ago, my youngest was having car trouble. It just didn’t want to start right away. So, it was left here at home for Bob to check out. The battery needed replaced – no big deal. But, schedules weren’t quite in line and my youngest needed to get back to Sioux Falls before Bob was able to test to be sure that the new battery did the job.
A few hours after my youngest left yesterday afternoon, she calls to let me know that he was rear-ended by a semi-truck on the interstate! From the description given to me, we were sure the truck was totaled.
We were relieved to find that not only was my youngest physically ok (slight whiplash and very traumatized, but not in ICU… or worse), but the truck is still driveable with minimal damage (the tow bar was ripped off, the bumper is mangled and the dash popped apart, disconnecting the radio). Truly AMAZING!
How many people do you know that can say they were hit by a semi-truck on the interstate and walked away?
Things would not have turned out so extraordinary if it had been the car!
My husband (a mechanic) says the damage can be fixed, but, after seeing the repair shop estimates, the insurance company may still claim the truck as “totaled”. Just waiting to hear on that.
So, next time your car won’t start and you feel like grumbling… remember, it may be a hidden blessing!

My Dad went on vacation and asked me to house sit while he’s away. It’s only been a few days, but, so far, I’d have to say that it’s been the most relaxing vacation away from home that I can remember… no schedules, no fights, no stress…
Bob took a week off and has been staying with me while my youngest takes care of our animals; but he has to work tomorrow, so his vacation is over. It is soooo nice being able to wake up in the morning, take care of the horses (and cats and birds), take a stroll through the garden and spend the rest of the day playing games and watching TV with your loved one or go visiting. Happy sigh. Yes, this is the dream life. There was a lovely home in town that I asked Bob if he’d like to go see, but he’d rather keep saving for a place in the country too.
